  Pro Gut Balancer contains the only live yeast approved for use in horses – Saccharomyces cerevisiae – with the highest number of live colony forming units (cfu) per serving. This live yeast has several key roles:

  • It aids fiber digestion by using its hyphae to break down fiber particles, allowing fiber-digesting bacteria to more easily colonize and digest them, creating volatile fatty acids (VFAs) that are a key source of energy for the horse.

  • It removes pockets of oxygen in the gut, which would otherwise be toxic to many beneficial microbes.

  • It competes with microbes that produce lactic acid and promotes the growth of those that can use it, reducing the likelihood of a drop in pH in the hindgut that can disrupt the delicate balance of the microbiome.

• Prebiotics
  These are usually fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), obtained from sugar beets, but they are also found naturally in vegetables and fruits such as chicory, onions, asparagus, garlic, Jerusalem artichokes, leeks and bananas.
