Product description
Equine America Uls-Gard Solution is formulated using carefully selected ingredients to support digestive and gastric health and comfort.
Natural nutritional support for gut health and comfort
Updated formula with key polysaccharides, hyaluronic acid and beta glucans at market-leading levels, backed by research.
High molecular weight hyaluronic acid to protect the gastric mucosa, while providing antioxidant support.
Beta glucans benefit the gut microbiota and intestinal health, and support the immune system, which is especially important before stressful events.
Calcium and magnesium from bioavailable chelated sources, to support healthy gut pH and buffer acid.
Prebiotics (FOS) and postbiotics (from Saccharomyces cerevisiae ) help maintain a healthy intestinal microbiota and support the immune system.
Pectins and lecithin help create a protective layer on the upper, unprotected part of the stomach lining by producing mucus. Lecithin is a special type of fat that helps maintain healthy stomach lining cells.
Licorice and mallow root traditionally soothe the stomach lining.
Glycine, a key amino acid, helps maintain a healthy stomach lining.
A tasty peppermint-flavored solution, easy to administer even to picky horses. It can be added to food or administered directly into the mouth with a syringe.
Suitable for foals at a reduced dose.Tips for managing stomach and digestive health:
Horses are adapted to continuous feeding – grazing for up to 16 hours a day. This means they must constantly secrete acid to digest this almost continuous feed intake into their stomachs. A grazing horse produces up to 9 gallons of saliva per day, which in addition to lubricating the food, helps maintain a healthy stomach pH.
Horses have small stomachs and food does not stay in them for long due to the constant secretion of stomach acid, so even short periods without access to roughage during the day should be minimized. Giving a small amount of roughage, such as pellets, before exercise also supports gastric health and comfort. The physical layer of fibrous feed helps prevent acid reflux into the unprotected squamous mucosa.
There are a number of additional management tips that can also help maintain gastric health and comfort:
Out on the grass where practical and possible, preferably with a calm companion, even if it is only for short periods. Try to provide periods of outing or hand grazing so the horse can benefit from the antioxidants in fresh green forage.
Plan barn and pasture regimens to avoid social stressors such as violence or excessive activity near the pen.
Provide ad-lib roughage where practical. For horses that are doing well, where calories are restricted, offer very frequent but controlled amounts of roughage, ensuring there are no long periods of "empty stomach". Choose a clean but low-calorie roughage so you can offer larger amounts.
Avoid high-starch foods and instead use a regimen based on bulky foods with digestible fiber sources and oil (e.g. Equine America Supreme Omega Oil) for extra energy.
Offer bulky food in different places around the pen to encourage natural foraging behavior.
Before training or warming up for a competition, give a good double handful (or 1 rounded scoop) of alfalfa pellets (or other suitable pellets) to provide a fibrous “layer” in the stomach – even if bulky feed is available in the barn or trailer.
Carefully plan training and competition schedules, especially where long-term travel may result in limited intake of bulky foods, and ensure adequate rest days each week.
