Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a key role in numerous metabolic processes. One of its main roles is as a coenzyme in enzymes involved in nerve and neuromuscular transmission – it helps regulate communication between nerves and between nerves and muscles.
Magnesium deficiency can lead to increased excitability of the nerves and neuromuscular system, resulting in a tense and nervous horse.
Stressful situations such as intense activity and competition, travel, prolonged standing in the barn, lack of grazing, or a new environment can further increase magnesium needs as stress levels increase.
Magnitude provides additional magnesium, along with controlled amounts of calcium (another key mineral in neuromuscular metabolism), to promote healthy nerve function and reduce tension, allowing the horse to remain focused and concentrated.
